Import between devices
Move your master secret between devices using an encrypted export string plus a short transfer code.
Getting started (iPhone / iPad)
Install Vaultless Pass from the App Store: Vaultless Pass.
On first run, you can either import your existing master secret from another device, or create a new one. On the Set up screen, use Scan QR Import, Import From Clipboard, or Generate Master Secret.
What you need
Transfers use two pieces:
1) An encrypted export string that looks like vaultlesspass://import?…
2) An 8-digit transfer code
The export string is encrypted and time-limited. If it expires, generate a new export.
Phone → PC (recommended)
On your phone, open Manage and tap Copy Export String. Send it to your PC using one of the methods below, then paste it into the browser extension and enter the transfer code.
Ways to move the export string:
- Message yourself (Signal/iMessage/WhatsApp/Slack/email)
- Notes app that syncs (Apple Notes/Google Keep/OneNote)
- Windows Phone Link clipboard sync (if enabled)
- Nearby Share / AirDrop (platform dependent)
PC → Phone (QR supported)
On your PC, open the extension Manage page and click Generate Export QR. This creates a new transfer code and QR. On your phone, use Scan QR Import to scan the QR. Enter the same transfer code to decrypt.
PC → Phone (no camera)
If scanning is inconvenient, copy the export string on your PC and send it to your phone (same methods as above). Then use Import From Clipboard on mobile and enter the transfer code.
Common issues
- Expired export: click Generate Export QR to create a new transfer code and export.
- Wrong transfer code: the code must match the export that generated it
- Already imported: importing the same master secret again makes no changes
- Replace warning: if a master secret already exists on your phone, you will be asked to confirm replacing it (derived passwords will change)
- Privacy: keep the export string and transfer code private
