FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Do I need to save my passwords?
Nope. Vaultless Pass regenerates the same password on demand, so you get vaultless convenience without a vault-shaped headache.
Do I still need a password manager?
Not for the logins Vaultless Pass generates. Keep a manager for shared vaults or notes if you want—but for daily logins, you’re covered.
What happens when a site forces a password change?
Bump the version and set the new password. Old passwords stay reproducible, so you can rotate like a pro with zero drama.
What if I forget my phrase or master secret?
There’s no recovery service (no server, remember?). Keep them safe—treat it like your keys, not your coffee order.
Does it work with SSO and passwordless logins?
If it’s fully passwordless, you’re already winning. Vaultless Pass shines on the many sites that still require a strong password.
How is this different from a password manager?
Password managers store a vault. Vaultless Pass regenerates the password on demand, so there’s nothing to sync, leak, or babysit.
Will this work on multiple devices?
Yes. Use the same phrase, master secret, and inputs on any device and you’ll get the same result every time. It travels with you, not your data.
What if I change my email or username on a site?
Update the account input to match the new username. You’ll instantly get the right password for the new login—no migration fuss.
What if a site blocks special characters or long passwords?
No problem. Adjust the length or version, and choose a compatible password on that site. You’re in control of the output.
Can I use it with a family or shared account?
You can, as long as everyone agrees on the same inputs. It’s a shared recipe, not a shared vault.
Does it work offline?
Absolutely. No server required. If your device is on, Vaultless Pass works—even in airplane mode.
Where can I download the iOS app?
Vaultless Pass is available on the App Store: Vaultless Pass for iPhone and iPad.
What if I get a new phone or browser?
Just bring your phrase and master secret, and you’re back in business. No export wizard, no vault restore drama.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Passwords are generated locally on your device. The only thing leaving the app should be your stress.
Can I export or back up my setup?
Yes. You can export your setup and move it safely to another device. It’s a backup of inputs, not a vault of passwords.
How do I contact support?
Email support@vaultlesspass.app. For common questions, see the FAQ and Import help.
How do I transfer my master secret to a new device?
Use the browser extension Manage page to generate an encrypted export QR, then scan it with the mobile app to import. You’ll also see an 8-digit transfer code—enter the same code on your phone to decrypt the import.
The export is time-limited (about 60 seconds). If it expires, generate a new export.
What happens if I generate a new export QR?
Generating a new export QR creates a new transfer code and clears the old QR/export string in the extension. Any previously generated QR/export string can only be decrypted with the transfer code that was used to create it, and only until it expires.
If you’re unsure whether a QR was exposed or you copied the wrong code, generate a fresh export.
Is it safe to share the export QR?
Treat it like a secret. Even though it’s encrypted, anyone who gets the QR/export string can attempt to guess the 8-digit transfer code. Only display it briefly, keep your screen private, and prefer exporting in a trusted environment.
What if I import over an existing master secret?
If the imported master secret is the same as your current one, importing makes no changes. If it is different, you will be asked to confirm replacing it. Replacing your master secret changes all derived passwords.
What happens if a site detects reuse?
It won’t, because each site/account gets its own derived password. That’s the whole point—and it works.
